At the Fairfield Community Garden we believe in returning any veggie scraps to our community garden to create wonderful compost which in turn helps us grow more food!
How to contribute to the compost?
If you wish to contribute your veggie scraps to our composting initiative we have a white bucket outside the gate. In the interests of keeping the Fairfield Community Garden litter-free please empty your scraps into the bucket and take your bags or reusable containers home with you. If you have compostable plastic bags, these are fine to leave in the blue container as they will break down in the compost heap.
What NOT to put in the compost?
PLEASE NO MEAT, FISH, DAIRY, GRAINS, COOKED FOOD, WEEDS, PLASTIC OR GLASS.
We love your donations and the compost is beautiful so please keep the scraps coming 🙂
My household use the bokashi composting bins (we don’t put meat, fish, dairy, grains, cooked foods, weeds, etc. in it though), but we don’t have a garden in which we can dig it down. Would you be interested in the fermented ‘waste’ (it should be able to go in the ordinary compost)?
